CAPTION INFO: Milwaukee Lake Shore & Western #63 has just been pulled from the Mid-Continent car restoration car shop at 8:30am, October 1, 2002. This is the first time it has seen daylight in its new 1888-era paint scheme. The black diesel locomotive is a General Electric 45-ton locomotive that has worked at the museum for over 25 years. CAPTION INFO: Mid-Continent's coach #63 as it appeared at 9:00am, October 1, 2002, while spotted for photography on the museum's rail line just outside of North Freedom. The two-tone paint scheme is a recreation of the original colors worn by the car when it was first placed in service in 1888. And yes, the trucks were green in 1888 too! CAPTION INFO: A re-created seat inside the coach. These seats were built entirely from scratch. Metal parts were cast from new molds by Balinski Tool & Machine of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Wooden seat frames were fabricated by the museum's restoration team. The red deep plush upholstery was specially made for this project. It was applied by Chilton Upholstery of Chilton, Wisconsin. CAPTION INFO: This wood carving located between two side window openings resembles an Ionic Capital and fluted column found in classical Greek and Roman architecture. CAPTION INFO: John Teskee (pictured) of Historic Woodworks in Plymouth, Wisconsin, fabricated the wooden seat frames from scratch for the car restoration. They were patterned after an original sample that the museum had in its collection. All the original seats in the car had been removed over 50 years ago.
