Mid-Continent has no historical data on Soo Line flat car #X 173. The car was last in work service as the boom (or idler) car assigned to the Soo Line wrecker #X-3. It was acquired in May 1984, when #X-3 was purchased from the Soo Line.

#X-173 features steel construction with a wood deck and "trolley" to support the weight of the boom of the attached wrecker crane. It continues in use as boom car for wrecker crane #X-3.
